In brief

Raloxifene 60 mg is prescribed after menopause to prevent or treat osteoporosis, and to lower invasive breast cancer risk in women with osteoporosis or a high risk of the disease.

Osteoporosis prevention or treatment, plus a lower chance of invasive breast cancer

For postmenopausal women, raloxifene is used to prevent osteoporosis or to treat it once present. The Evista leaflet from Eli Lilly Australia, issued in September 2023, adds a second purpose: reducing the risk of invasive breast cancer in postmenopausal women who have osteoporosis or who are at high risk of breast cancer.
Every figure in the table is for 60 mg. Neither the brand nor the manufacturer of the stock sent out is named in this listing, so inspect the label on delivery and let a pharmacist or your prescriber confirm it matches the prescription.

The 10-unit pack compared with 90 and 180 units at 60 mg

Compare packs of the same strength. These examples are for 60 mg and are calculated from the listed prices at the shop’s Australian-dollar rate on 9 October 2026, before delivery or other checkout charges.
Strength Pack size Pack price Price per unit
60 mg 10 units A$35.91 A$3.59
60 mg 90 units A$260.08 A$2.89
60 mg 180 units A$472.75 A$2.63
Measured against the 10-unit pack, one unit costs about 19.5% less in the 90-unit pack and about 26.9% less in the 180-unit pack.
A lower price per unit means a larger upfront payment. Choose only the quantity and strength appropriate to your prescription, and check the expiry date. Prices can change, so confirm the current pack price before ordering.

Evista’s prescription-only status and other raloxifene names on healthdirect

Evista raloxifene hydrochloride 60 mg tablets in a blister pack are recorded under ARTG entry 64709; the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods is the TGA’s official list of therapeutic products. Healthdirect describes Evista as a film-coated 60 mg tablet in Schedule 4, Prescription Only Medicine, and shows it as PBS-listed. Other raloxifene brands with healthdirect entries are Fixta, Raloxifene Apotex, Ralovista, Raloxifene WGR and Raloxifene Auro. Because the brand and maker of this shop’s raloxifene have not been identified, no link to any of these registrations is claimed.

Why raloxifene behaves differently in bone and in the lining of the womb

Raloxifene’s effect on oestrogen receptors varies from one tissue to another, according to Australian Prescriber. Bone tissue responds to it as to an agonist, whereas the lining of the womb is not stimulated.

When a clotting history or being premenopausal rules raloxifene out

The Evista CMI lists blood clots as a reason not to take raloxifene, and this covers a current clot, a past one and one that was never treated. The leaflet likewise excludes men, anyone with a raloxifene allergy, and women who are still premenopausal or could fall pregnant.

Travel, heart rhythm history and liver function as raloxifene precautions

Being immobile for long stretches increases the chance of a clot, so the leaflet suggests getting up and moving during long trips. If you have had a stroke or atrial fibrillation, talk this through with your doctor. Raloxifene is not recommended where liver function is impaired, and regular breast checks and mammograms remain necessary while you take it.

Hot flushes, swollen hands and the medicines the Evista CMI flags

Common effects named in the CMI are hot flushes, leg cramps, muscle spasms, flu-like symptoms and swelling of the hands, feet or legs. Should a leg become badly swollen or painful, or should intense abdominal pain, shortness of breath or painful breathing appear, seek medical care urgently. Warfarin and cholestyramine appear in the CMI as medicines that interact with raloxifene, while oestrogen therapy, HRT among it, is to be used alongside it only with a doctor overseeing treatment.
